People with disabilities from eight associations under the National Union of Disabilities Organizations (NUDOR) in the Northern district of Musanze on March 25, 2014 formed an advocacy platform to address their problems.
The problems in focus include extreme poverty, lack of essentials like walking clutches and wheel chairs.
According to The Executive secretary of NUDOR Jean Damascene Nsengiyumva, the platform will advocate for the people with disabilities to get the necessary equipment and mobility aid.
While NUDOR makes decisions at the national level, the platform will ensure implementation of the decisions at the local level.
“This platform will recruit people with disabilities into associations and emphasise hard work,” said Anathalie Dunia, a visually impaired resident from Remera sector.
NUDOR advocates and addresses problems that people with disabilities face. It has operated for three years and unites about eight associations of people with disabilities, countrywide.
NUDOR has an aim of creating such platforms in more six districts in Rwanda by the end of April 2014.
