The historically marginalized in Nyabihu district have been presented with life changing projects, especially having houses constructed for them in Kanebwe village in Rubavu where those evacuated from Gishwati wilderness remarked the work as “valuable”
The social activities to support the vulnerable in different classes in Nyabihu district were achieved at 100 percent and even some projects which were not planned but achieved as Francois Rwamucyo the officer for social affairs in the district said.
Among the many vulnerable and poor groups of people that were supported, there are about 205 families of the historically marginalized in Nyabihu district and all these families have decent accommodation as Rwamucyo explained.
In the year 2012, 52 families of the historically marginalized group were given houses for accommodation. 15 houses were built in Rambura sector, 9 houses in Muringa sector and 28 houses were built in Kamembe sector in Rubavu district where they found land after failing to get some in Nyabihu district.
In this year that is yet to end 2012, the historically marginalized were given land to farm in order to fight poverty. Apart from getting houses for accommodation, 4 cooperatives were formed for the historically marginalized, given 8 hectares of land for farming in Bigogwe and Mukamira sectors as well as farming tools like hoes and others.
The historically marginalized produced Irish potatoes of which they sell and get some of theior basic needs, get enough for their family consumption and stay with the seeds for the next farming season.
Though a lot was done for the vulnerable group of people in 2012, a lot more are in store for them in the coming year 2013 to develop them in social and economic spheres.
Rwamucyo went on to explain that people with disabilities, the 1994 genocide against Tutsi survivors will be supported in their projects for them to attain lasting development. Every person is supposed to play a role in this program for their personal or general development of the county.
