A three year poverty eradication plan is being organised to uplift the residents in the poorest sectors of Nyamagabe district from under the poverty line.
This comes following the visit of the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame to Nyamagabe District February 2013. The President commended sectors that have economically developed and asked for a plan on the remaining poor sectors in the District.
On March 13th 2013 during the press conference, Philbert Mugisha mayor of Nyamagabe district asserted that the 3 year poverty eradication plan is being implemented in partnership with different administrative levels, ministries and concerned organizations.
Mugisha denotes that preparing the development plan will end with March 2013 and it will commence with the development activities that prevail in Nyamagabe district.
He adds that residents have freedom to express their views about the plan since it intends to bring lasting social and economic development.
The findings of the research carried out on family welfare (EICV 3) shows that 73 residents out of 100 in Nyamagabe district are under poverty line.
Nine sectors out of seventeen sectors that make Nyamagabe district are included in Umurenge Vision program (VUP) where residents are given jobs, others given loans for income generating projects and the elderly are given direct finance.
The remaining eight sectors are given money on the financial budget that was intended for ubudehe program where residents choose development activities, get employed and get paid.
The district authorities reveal there is a non agricultural job creation program to lift residents from poverty.
