Residents that neighbor Rutongo Mines in Masoro sector in Rulindo district need the Mine to reconstruct their houses that were destroyed by dynamites while mining for cassiterite or Tin Ores in the mine.
The dynamites that are quarried fly over and destroy the houses of the neighboring homes to the mine. Though this issue has been continuously brought to mining authorities and the district but people are still waiting for the compensation in vain.
Augustin Kabasha a neighbouring resident to this mine says his housed was destroyed during dynamite shedding which was done in the ground under his house but this issue has not yet been solved though his house was destroyed beyond imagination.
“My house was destroyed by dynamite shedding as the mining ground is now under my home. During the time the mine was counting houses that were destroyed to be compensated they refused to include mine yet for sure my house was strong enough, built with bricks but now it is in shambles” says Kabasha.
After his house was destroyed for the first time, Kabasha says he tried to renovate it but gave up when it was affected again and again since they always shed the dynamites just under his home.
The governor for the Northern Province of Rwanda Aimee Bosenibamwe however said that all houses that were destroyed by this mining company either through dynamite shedding or any other issue should be renovated completely.
“People whose houses were destroyed by dynamite in the mining should be compensated for them to feel that this mining company cares about people not only mines. The Mining Company should take note of everyone who house was destroyed and renovate them as soon as possible” said the governor.
It is not only the residents of Masaro sector whose houses are affected by dynamites by all people near these mining grounds are affected.
