Over 39 houses were handed over to survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rusizi district by the Rwandan Reserve Force (Inkeragutabara), on March, 26th, 2014.

The houses were constructed in a four-month period and each house is worth Rwf1.5 million.

The houses come as a donation to vulnerable survivors ahead of the 20th   commemoration due on April 07th 2014.

“It’s our role as good citizens to provide decent accommodation to the genocide survivors,” said Brigadier General Eric Murokore the commander of the Reserve Force in the Western Province.

Each house has 3 bedrooms, a sitting room, outside kitchen, pit latrine and water tank.

Rusizi district expects more than 62 houses from the Ministry of Defense to provide comfortable accommodation to homeless and vulnerable genocide survivors in the district.
