Residents urged to prevent land disputes

The vice-mayor for social affairs in Rusizi district, Mrs. Francoise Nirere has said that land disputes are brought by increasing number of residents resulting into land scarcity.

The vice mayor said this during the event to devise means of resolving problems of the residents that could not be solved by lower administrative levels.

The assembly meant to join efforts with Rusizi district administration in solving residents problems was held at Mushaka parish play ground during the good governance month that started on January 21st 2013.

The participants came from Rwimbogo, Gashonga and Nzahaha sectors.

Though many residents turned up for the event with much hope that their problems would be solved, some of them showed dissatisfaction over the solutions they were given.

Vice mayor Francoise Nirere asked residents to focus on creating jobs that can help them achieve sustainable development rather than spending all they have trying to solve land disputes.

Apart from solving residents’ problems, the good governance week was comprised of talks on good governance, celebrating achievements, songs, dances and poems on the government’s achievements.
