The District Mayor in Ngororero Mr. Gideon Ruboneza has assured quick operations in solving some of issues affecting genocide survivors especially cases about property possessions, finishing unfinished court cases and giving accommodation to those in need.

Mayor Ruboneza
Ruboneza explains that having such problems 19 years after the genocide is not due to carelessness but lack of capabilities from the district and cases that are solved by law which takes time to rule them out.
Another limitation to solving such problems of the 1994 genocide survivors is the large number of poor and needy people that need support and that are supported slowly depending on the lack of economic stability of the district.
Jean d’Amour Niyonsenga the representative of the 1994 genocide survivors in Ngororero district says there are always such issues because some genocide perpetrators refuse to pay for the compensation of properties as ruled by court intentionally when they have the means to pay.
Niyonsenga goes on to say that for people who were ordered to pay compensation for the destroyed properties during the 1994 genocide but are not capable of paying back are to be used in community work for the country’s development. The government should extend the courtesy to support the people who were to be compensated through the community work done by the perpetrator.
Ngororero district management as well as IBUKA promised advocacy to make the complaints of the 1994 genocide survivors known.

The governor Eastern Province Odette Uwamariya said that the main thing that can be done to help genocide survivors overcome trauma is helping them with their day to day problems.
The governor said this after confirmation from the mayor of Kayonza district John Mugabo on the 12/04/2013, of a very big deduction in the number of genocide survivors still with the problem, which gives hope that these people are overcoming the bad history the faced and now working to development.
“Though there is a reduction in trauma amongst the survivors, these people still move with such and this is the reason we have to help them with other problems especially in their homes”, said Uwamariya.
She added on saying that the government will continue helping the genocide survivors with their problems to help them overcome they trauma they live in.
She called them on not to stay with the memory of the bad history but instead to work hard and be able to develop.
The genocide survivors in Kayonza therefore thanked the government for all the efforts put in helping them overcome their problems.
“I would like to thank the government for increasing the number of genocide survivor students it supports in the different universities, for the houses constructed for many”, said Ignace Munyabuhoro the representative of the survivors in Kayonza.
She asked the different district leaders and the government to continue helping them promising to put all the government programmes organised for them into practice.

The residents of Bisika village in Mpanda cell in Byimana sector, Ruhango District have been applauded for the need to support genocide survivors even though there is no 1994 genocide survivor residing in this village.
During the closure of the memorial week on Saturday the 13th.April.2013, the residents of Bisika village collected about Rwf110.000 and gave it to the executive secretary of Mpanda cell Sothene Habarurema to be given to vulnerable genocide survivors in another village.

“It was gratifying to receive this money and seeing the motivation of Bisika village residents to support the genocide survivors in this period” said the executive secretary of Mpanda cell. This money was added to other collected money and they bought small bulls and gave them to Antoine Nashamaje and Bosco genocide survivors in this cell.
Jean Marie Nahayo The executive secretary of Byimana sector says “this is a sign of a big step taken by people towards unity and reconciliation taken by Rwandans.”
Apart from financial support given by Bisika village, residents of this village participated fully in the reconstruction of Byimana memorial site. The reconstruction involved taking off the tree fence and putting in place a brick fence and cleaning it.
Jean Marie Nahayo says “for the Byimana memorial site to be fully reconstructed, these residents participated fully. The basic renovation work required Rwf2.5 million but it was instead constructed worth2.4 million with Rwf1million from the district and the remaining Rwf1.4 was contributed by people in this sector.”
For Bisika village to be having no single genocide survivors is because even before the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis, there were no Tutsi residents in the village.
