A variety of colourful flowers makes a difference

A variety of colourful flowers makes a difference

A house’s garden is only as good as the soil in which it is planted. If you take good care of the soil, then the flowers and plants that spring from the soil will also be healthy. As such, we need to add proper water and nutrients to the soil to make it look good and also produce good springs from it.

We need to add flowers with bold colors which are always a great component to any home garden. There are many different types of flowers that can be added to a garden’s mix and all of them have their own unique value. However, brightly colored flowers have much special appeal.  They can make any environment that they are in cheerful and lovely .This will make your home very inviting to everyone.

You will need to keep weeds out of your gardens just as you wish the best and the brightest flowers to remain in there. Weeds can harm the plants and the flowers that are in the garden and also undermine the visual value of your garden. That is why it is always critical to always look out for any of the weeds and do eliminate them as the come up.

The next thing that you will look at is the pests which will have to go. Just as weeds are not needed in your garden, so are pests such as insects. They can all wreck havoc on a garden. When you spot them, make sure you take the proper steps to evict them! If a pesticide you bought doesn’t work, you will probably need to call a professional to come and help you with the pests.

Now that all is done, adding fertilizer at regular intervals will be needed as well. This will provide any benefits to the plants and flowers in the garden. As a result, your garden will remain healthy and alive.

Remember if you follow all the above, your garden will be safe, secure, healthy, and appealing. You will have the best of gardens that you have always dreamed of.

Rwanda | Southern Province: orphanages number of children to be managed

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Social affairs officials in sectors of Southern Province have vowed to reduce the number of children raised in orphanages following the recent discovery that some have parents.

Some children are found abandoned by parents who are poor so that able people can raise them, who stay near watching them grow silently.

Other children in orphanages are street children, who run away from their homes because of lack of food or family wrangles.

Social affairs have decided to sensitize parents to care for all children as their own, to get married before the law and to communicate because insufficient communication results into conflicts that force children from home.

Family planning issues will be addressed to the parents so that poverty does not make parents fail to care for the children they bore, Officials assert.

Southern province sector leaders will encourage parents to start small income generating projects as a way of fighting poverty.

In order to solve children problems early, sector officials have promised to introduce children programs where they meet and talk about their problems.

This program will help the leaders to know what to ask of parents so that children enjoy being home with parents than running away to suffer on streets.

Rwanda Christine Niwemugeni

Christine Niwemugeni, vice mayor for social affairs in Huye district

Rwandan Leaders have been asked to be the first in adopting children from orphanages so that they grow up in homes, Christine Niwemugeni; vice mayor for social affairs in Huye district has said.

Vice mayor said this during the meeting on transferring children from orphanages to some families. The meeting gathered the concerned authorities in southern province.

Explaining on the reason for asking leaders to adopt children, vice mayor Niwemugeni lamented: “Recently here in Huye, we had six children that we wanted to give to some families. Two got them but after hard work, three of them were sent to Nyundo orphanage and another one is at Kabutare hospital.”

I think if leaders show a good example the rest would follow and receive children from orphanages because these children need families to raise them, adds Niwemugeni.

Giving the reasons as to why adoption is not easy, one participant said: “Am never home due to my demanding work, why do I bring a child I will never get time for when he or she comes in need of parental care?”

Another parent added: “I have one child and would love to bring home his playmate, but if I take one home it will require me to enroll him or her in the same school as my child, yet it is expensive.”

Although orphans count to 3000, the problem would be solved if leaders took up the idea because they are many as well, says Niwemugeni.

Rwanda | Musaza: Kitchen gardens advance to brick made gardens

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

While many residents have been making kitchen gardens out of polythene papers, some have advanced methods of using bricks and cement to make good looking and durable gardens.

Emmanuel Kaburame, a resident of Mubuga cell, Musaza sector says that akarima k’igikoni is very important to residents but sometimes they get destroyed because of poor quality materials used.

Emmanuel Kaburame, who used bricks, sand and cement, asserts that his kitchen garden is like a decorative piece with different vegetable types in his home.

The most common vegetables grown in akarima k’igikoni are cabbages, greens, carrots among others.

Using bricks is beneficial in a way that bricks keep the soil cold for the better growth of the vegetables unlike using stones that keep warmth, which makes them dry if it shines.

Akarima k’igikoni became a necessity of every home because it helps in fighting malnutrition.

Rwanda | Bugesera: “Kitchen garden” a must for every home

As a way of fighting malnourishment, every home in Bugesera district has been encouraged to have a kitchen garden (akarima k’igikoni) so that vegetables are eaten often.

Having akarima k’igikoni does not require one to have a big space because of the way it can be made to fit on a small area.

Goretti Nyiramana, community health worker of Rwaniro cell in Gashoro sector asserts that a kitchen garden is a must have for every home because it’s the easiest way of fighting malnutrition.

“Akarima k’igikoni is the simplest way of growing vegetables without a big area and expensive materials. You can use old basins, buckets and others can be used to grow carrots, onions and cabbages,” says Goretti Nyiramana.

Jeanne Mukandayisenga, a nutritionist at ADEPR Nyamata Hospital encourages parents to care for their children and prevent malnutrition.

“It’s not necessary to buy vegetables when there is an easy way of having your garden,” adds Mukandayisenga.

Mukandayisenga elaborates that what makes the whole process simple and affordable is the fact that vegetables can be grown as flowers in flower pots or vases and look like decorations when catered for.

In order to fight malnutrition in Bugesera, a team of people was chosen for making kitchen gardens in every home and giving them seeds to grow.

Nyamirambo residents condemn EWSA for unfairly water distribution

Local residents in various sectors of Nyamirambo sector in Nyarugenge district, Kigali City have been facing a persistent water crisis claiming that water distribution is not carried out fairly by Rwanda’s Water and electricity supply body, EWSA.

Nyamirambo residents

Affected areas include Kimisagara, Rwezamenyo and Kivugiza which purportedly enjoy an on and off supply.

“We sometimes go for three days without a drop of water, yet other areas enjoy the privilege,” says Vincent Muraza, a resident in Kimisagara Sector, Ntaraga cell.

He however, explained that some of his neighbours who are supplied via another water pipeline remain unaffected yet they all pay monthly bills for water.

He added saying that sometimes house maids sacrifice themselves to go to fetch bore hall water at Kimisagara valley. Donatha Mukamana, a house maid reiterated that due to many people found at the valley they sometimes reach home late.

“Sometimes people fight here, and for us who work at home sometimes fear of being abused by our employers for delaying yet it is not our problem,” said Mukamana.

In an interview with the official in charge of Water and Electricity supply at the Energy Water and Sanitation Authority, Methode Rutagungira said that some parts of the city were experiencing water shortage due to the ongoing replacement of old pipelines, adding that the company is devising ways to reverse the situation.

He clarified that the inconsistency in water supply to different areas is caused by differences in pressure and coverage of the three main stations in Kigali including Nyabarongo, Karenge and Kimisagara.

However, Rutagungira urged residents to install water tanks and always contact EWSA when there is a persistent water shortage.
