Genocide survivors in Rutovu cell, Kinyababa sector, Burera district appreciated the Rwandan government for getting them out of grass thatched houses to ones with iron sheets they live in now.

These people in Gisenyi village near the Rwanda-Uganda border used to live poorly near this border.

“We now live better lives than when we still lived in grass-thatched houses all because of this government”, said Jackline Bakamenyera one of the survivors.

“Life is now better since I sleep in a better place not like before were I used to stay on a hill and when it rained all I thought of was how I was going to survive”, added on Bakamenyera.

Bakamenyera thanked the government again for the contribution it makes for them in the medical insurance, [metuelle de santé].

We used to stay with animal in the forest, said another survivor Fidele Abiyingoma, who added on saying that they no longer face problem with rain.

“I used to sleep on grass but now I sleep on a mattress, narrated Abiyingoma who has 2 wives and 12 children.

They requested the leadership to help them get bigger field of land from which they can carry out farming and be able to support themselves, since the ones they gave them are very small.

The Executive secretary of Kinyababa Fabrice Nsabimana also said that most problems that these people faced had been solved, adding on that the remaining thing was building toilets, kitchens for them.

He encouraged them to form or join cooperatives which will help them improve their social welfare

There are about 283 genocide survivors in this sector who are now settled in a collection of homes with a very big challenge of poor family planning.

About 40 poor families of genocide survivors and other marginalized communities in Byimana sector- Ruhango District received cows as a support from Bureau Social de development, the contribution was made on 18^th.June.2012.

These families thanked the President of the Republic Paul Kagame who initiated girinka program to improve the social welfare and the health of Rwandans.

They also said that they are no longer going to be affected by eating poor eating habits as they will get milk and manure to boost their crops production.

“To me it is like a dream, I now have 54 years and apart from me, no single person in my family has ever owned a cow but now I have one” said Leonard Ruyigirana one of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi who was given a cow.

Yohana Mutungirehe a historically marginalized and who was given a cow said that he got a boost to fight poverty he has been leaving in for a very long time. He had been waiting patiently to also be given a cow like others in this program and asked those who are not yet given to wait patiently because they will get them.

Prudence Karamira the executive secretary in Bureau Social de development said that they give cows to the poor families but who are able to care and feed them.

Jean Marie Nahayo the executive secretary of Byimana sector warned families who are given cows and sell them and if any one does sell the cow, he/she will be punished accordingly instead asked them to take care of them so that if they multiply they give to their neighbours.

Les étudiants qui parachevaient les cours d’éducation civique “Intore” dans le site de Kidaho, district de Burera, ont fait une donation des différents outils ménagers aux autochtones. Cette cérémonie s’est tenue le 14 décembre 2011. Ces ustensiles comprennent entre autres des casseroles, des assiettes, des bassins, des couvre-lits … L’argent qui a servi à l’achat de ces ustensiles provient de la collecte qui se faite lorsque ces étudiants étaient dans ce site. Les différentes autorités qui se sont déplacées sur place ont aussi fait une donation et l’argent récolté dans l’ensemble s’élève à 200 000frs rwandais.

Quelques étudiants Intore ont déclaré avoir opté pour l’achat d’outils ménagers à ces autochtones afin de ne pas gaspiller cet argent soit dans la boisson ou autre activité inutile. 16 ménages d’indigènes ont été invites à cette occasion pour recevoir ces présents. Ces indigènes ont montré leur enthousiasme en effectuent des chants et danses pour remercier ces intores.

En outre ces étudiants ont procédé à la rénovation des maisons des autochtones. Un des Intore a affirmé : «  Nous avons rénové entièrement  10 maisons car elles l’étaient en partie ». Ils ont aussi réparé la route endommagée par les pluies torrentielles venant du volcan de Muhabura.

Ces indigènes vivaient auparavant dans la foret du volcan de Muhabura mais furent  réintroduits dans le village de Nyagahinga, secteur de Cyanika, district de Burera.

Ubwo izo ntore zakoraga ibirori byo gusoza itorero zatumiye imiryango 16 y’abo basigajwe inyuma n’amateka kugira ngo babahe ibyo bikoresho babaguriye. Abo basigajwe inyuma n’amateka bakaba nabo barabyishimiye. Aho babyerekanye babyina imbyino zitandukanye zo gushimira izo ntore.

Usibye kubaha ibyo bikoresho izo ntore zivuga zanabafashije kubahomera amazu. Umwe mu ntore agira ati “twahomye inzu zigera ku icumi z’abasigajwe inyuma n’amateka zari zisakaye ariko zidahomye ku mpande”.

Ngo banakoze umuhanda wari warangijwe n’amazi ava mu kirunga cya Muhabura.
