The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority [RURA] promised to construct a house for a 61 year old man Alexis Rwakarema, a 1994 genocide survivor in Rukumberi who has been staying in other people’s home with his 6 children for the past 19years.

 RURA took on this discussion as one way of helping vulnerable people in this area who suffered the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi since this place was badly affected.

 As said by Beathee Mukangabo from RURA they decided to help this area, because it’s one area with very bad history of the genocide.

“We were helped by IBUKA and the National Commission Against the Genocide [CNLG] to select this area because it has very many people suffering all because of the bad incident that happened to them”, said Mukangabo.

 In his words, Rwakarema thanked RURA for the help saying that he was so happy that at last he was going to leave his children somewhere.

 It was however noted that the genocide survivor’s social wellbeing was improving a lot in this area compared to the past years by Callixte Kabandana from ARGR an association for genocide survivors in Rukumberi.

 RURA did not only help this elderly man but also other 5 families of genocide survivors which they promised to continue helping in any way possible.

 These people were encouraged to always strive for self-reliance which will help them gain self-respect.

 Mu ijambo rigufi cyane yagejeje kubari aho yavuze ko ashimiye abagize uruhare muri icyo gikorwa ndetse ko abasabiye umugisha kuma Mana.

The habitation of the villages department in the ministry of Local Governments (MINALOC) has argued Rwandans to use tiles instead of iron sheets especially people who are settling in settlement villages suggested.

Houses with tiles are said to last longer

This was said by William Ngabonziza a worker in the habitation department in MINALOC saying “the houses that were built for the poor and vulnerable in the settlement villages using iron sheets for roofing are already falling apart and they need to be replaced when those that were covered by tiles are still well and intact.”

Apart from getting old sooner, the iron sheets are expensive; they are imported outside of Rwanda and they do not provide work to Rwandans while tiles last forever, cheap which provide employment to Rwandan youth who make them.

Ngabonziza explained; “in the program to eliminate grass thatched houses a few years ago in Rwanda, iron sheets that were used in the support of the poor were worth Rfw7 million and if tiles were used, that money could have developed Rwandan youth instead of going to foreigners.

In this period where most of the Rwandans especially those living in high risk zones are being encouraged to shift to settlement villages, Ngabonziza says it is advisable to consider many factors and especially long term factors and use tiles in building instead of iron sheets.

Muri iki gihe Abanyarwanda batuye ahantu habi nko mu manga no mu mibande barashishikarizwa kuhava bagatura aho begeranye n’abandi mu midugudu. Abazimuka rero, ngo byaba byiza bashakaje amategura.

On April 22^nd 2012, 14 families from Karama sector in Kamonyi district officially entered houses built for them by FARG.

The beneficiaries include homeless genocide survivors and genocide orphans that have been adopted by families and have grown to be on their own.

Pascasie Nyiramatama, a resident of Bunyonga cell stressed that she has been living in a small house with her grandchild her neighbors built for her after genocide and that it was very old now.

She is thankful to the government of Rwanda for its continuous help to genocide survivors especially building modern houses for us and Girinka program to help us fight poverty.

Genocide orphans Agatha Mukaharirwa, high school leaver and Gilbert Mupenzi, a secondary school student were among the beneficiaries who grew up separately.

Mukahahirwa exclaims “I am happy that I can be with my brother after along time of separation.”

Karama sector executive secretary Emmanuel Mbonigaba Emmanuel, explains the three bedroom and sitting room houses have toilets and kitchens, and were built on FARG fund.

As a way of supporting them, the beneficiaries were given beddings, sanitary materials, cooking utensils and food to start on.

These materials were bought with the money residents contributed during the first week of genocide commemoration while attending commemoration talks.

Abahawe ibikoresho ni abize imyuga irimo ubudozi, ububaji, ubwubatsi, ububoshyi b’uduseke ndetse n’abacuruzi.

Kanyabugarura Jean Bosco atuye mu murenge wa Gahunga, yize ubudozi. Avuga ko ashimira APIB yatumye amenya uwo mwuga kuko watumye ava mu bukene. Kuburyo usibye no kubona amafaranga yo kwibeshaho n’imyenda yambara harimo iyo yidodera.

Akomeza abwira abumva ko abasigajwe inyuma n’amateka ntacyo bakwigezaho cyabateza imbere bakwiye kubireka kuko aho u Rwanda rugeze buri munyarwanda akwiye gushyira hawe n’undi kugira ngo biteze imbere.

Ibyo bikoresho bahawe bije byiyongera ku bindi byinshi akarere ka Burera kabafashije nk’uko Nkanika abisobanura. Muri ibyo harimo kuba barabakuye mu ishyamba ry’ikirunga cya Muhabura  aho babaga, bakabashyira mu mudugudu, bakabubakira n’amazu.

Ikindi ni uko mu miryango 33 y’abashigajwe inyuma n’amateka iba mu murenge wa Cynika, batangiye kuyiha inka. Imiryango ine barangije kuyiha inka, indi nayo mu minsi mike baratangira kuyigabira nk’uko Nkanika abyemeza.

Abahawe ibikoresho mu murenge wa Cyanika ni 33 naho mu murenge wa Gahunga ni ingo 10. Buri wese yahawe ibikoresho bye bwite bitewe n’umwuga yize cyangwa yitegura gukora. Muri ibyo bikoresho bahawe harimo amamashini adoda, iranda zibaza, imyiko n’ibindi.
