The Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana has urged Rwandan youths to embrace the culture of saving, hard work and formation of cooperatives in order to improve their standard of living.

The minister made the remarks during the official launching of the 2013 youth month which took place in Kabaya sector, Ngororero district in Western Province, on May 4, under the theme: “The Promise of a generation.”

The main goal of this month is to celebrate the achievements so far made within the sector while focusing on the key issues facing young people but also create a platform for youth advocacy and a clear strategy for youth to be able to meaningfully contribute to nation building especially focusing on the role of youth to build the society.

Minister Nsengimana argued that the youth need to be more of job creators who need to start with available resources within their reach, and those who do not have the ability to start a business should join the Kuremera program and Hanga umurimo program-in which communities and government chip in to finance income generating activities respectively.

The month’s activities will range from those in line with economic empowerment, social contribution, and the use of ICT as a tool for development as well as activities related to sports and entertainment

As part of the agenda, Isamaza youth cooperative were given two computers, a 32inch TV screen and a decoder courtesy of Star Africa media- a Chinese multimedia company in Rwanda. The equipments will be used to generate income for the youth cooperative- which is mainly composed of genocide survivors in Kabaya.

One of the youth in Ngororero District, Eugene Nzanywayinshuti, 26 is a farmer who is  are confident that through working hard to produce more one can improve their welfare and contribute to the economy which largely depends on agriculture.

“I cultivate maize, potatoes and I buy lands where I’ll extend my activities, now I saved more than 1 million Rwandan francs, now I urge my brothers and sisters to work hard and I’m sure they’ll get a result.”

In Vision 2020, Rwanda’s long-term socioeconomic development agenda, it is envisaged that a critical mass of viable SMEs will create 3.2 million off-farm Jobs by 2020.  Incidentally, unemployment is one of the biggest challenges Rwanda is facing today.

The youth population between 14-35 years old is 4, 159,000, among them 70.2% are working and 26.3% are students. About 65% of the youth work less than 35hours per week and this is a proxy to time related to underemployment. It is also estimated that 1.4% are unemployed and the unemployment is high in Kigali city with 4.8% for men and 10% for

On the 11^th/04/2013, youths in Muranyundo cell, Nyamata sector, Bugesera District helped constructed a house for one of the women who were widowed in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

The house that Widow Jeanette Nyirarukundo had was almost falling because of the constant rain, and therefore this is why the youths demolished it and constructed another one for her.

This act of helping the vulnerable genocide survivors in the district was organised by the National youth committee, as said by Jean Claude Gahigi the coordinator.

Gahigi said that youths should help reconstruct the country since they also participated in demolishing it during the 1994 genocide.

“This act again helps the vulnerable people become self- reliant”, added on Gahigi.

Nyirarukundo appreciated the help given by these youths, saying that she will continue with the good work start even when the youths are gone.

The youths promised to build this house and make it even stronger so they can help this elderly woman live a happy life.

These activities were organised in all the sectors of Bugesera district where vulnerable genocide survivors’ houses will all be renovated and also several other development activities carried out for them.

Urwo rugendo rwo kwibuka abazize Jenoside yakorewe abatutsi rwatangiye mu ma saa sita za kumanywa. Rwitabiriwe n’urubyiruko rutandukanye rurimo abanyeshuri ndetse n’urundi rubyiruko rusanzwe.

Abitabiriye urugendo rwo kwibuka, muri zone ya Kirambo, bakoze urwo rugendo n’amaguru ahantu hareshya n’ibirometero bibiri. Barushoje bashyira indabo k’Urwibutso kwa Jenoside yakorewe abatutsi rwa Rusarabuye, rushyinguye mo imibiri y’abazize Jenoside 67.

Umuhuzabikorwa w’inama y’igihugu y’urubyiruko mu murenge wa Gasaka, Kavoma Patrick atangaza ko nk’urubyiruko bafashe ingamba zo gufasha abacitse ku icumu mu buryo butandukanye, mu rwego rwo kubafata mu mugongo no kubereka icyizere cyo kubaho, bakareka kwigunga.

Urubyiruko rurishimira kugira uruhare mu bikorwa byubaka igihugu

Urubyiruko rwo mu Kagari ka Maranyundo mu murenge wa Nyamata mu karere ka Bugesera kuwa 11/4/2013 rwaramukiye mu gikorwa cyo gusana inzu y’umwe mu bapfakazi warokotse Jenoside yakorewe abatutsi mu 1994.

Inzu ya rukarakara yari yarubakiwe umupfakazi wa Jenoside utishoboye witwa Nyirarukundo Jeanette utuye mu mudugudu wa Muyange mu kagari ka Maranyundo ni yo yatewe igishahuro n’urubyiruko rwo muri ako kagari.

Bahize ko inzu bazayuzuza

Yavuze ko kuba urubyiruko rwaragize uruhare runini mu gusenya igihugu, ari na rwo ruhare rugomba kugira mu kucyubaka kandi uwo basaniye inzu ngo ni n’uburyo bwo kumushishikariza kwigira.

Ibi ni ibikorwa byateguwe mu mirenge yose igize akarere ka Bugesera, aho bazasana amazu y’abarokotse Jenoside batishoboye yatangiye kwangirika, hakazabaho n’ibindi bikorwa byo kubaremera.

With one week to the National Commemoration Period of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi victims for the 19^th time, the youth of Gisagara District are being called upon to participate in different programs of the commemoration period.

These said programs that will support genocide survivors and inform Rwandans and the world about the effect of genocide are worth all the support, officials in the District have remarked

Gisagara Youth to participate in commemoration programs

Youth need to participate and identify themselves in the programs of the commemoration period like doing community work, building houses for the homeless genocide survivors, reconstructing the ruined houses, supporting the poor and vulnerable with tools and food stuffs and giving presentations on the history of Rwanda.

 The youth of Gisagara district know very well that such actions are necessary for healing the hearts of many Rwandans that need healing. “Actions like visiting childless parents or people with no families or orphans due to genocide make them realize that they have support from other people and get out of the shack of loneliness” says one of the youth in Ndora sector Pierre Muneza.

The youth in the district are being called upon to do more than what they have been doing in the last commemoration periods and move out to heal the damaged hearts and traumatized minds of genocide survivors and rebuild their country.

“We have prepared different programs and actions in this commemoration period and we need the youth to own them and participate fully in them. We the youth are the strength of the country we therefore have a responsibility to rebuild it. We have to support the weak genocide survivors and give them the hope and courage we can master” says Noel Rukundo the coordinator of National Youth Council in Gisagara district.

As well as other parts of the country, Gisagara district still has orphans-headed families and widows that need hope and courage to move on with their lives after the atrocities they witnessed 19 years ago during the genocide. This will only be done by their Rwandan neighbours especially the youth who are strong enough to give courage to the weak and scared and hope to the hopeless.

In the celebrations to put to a halt the operations of the youth on Urugerero program due to the commemoration period for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis in Nyanza district on Thursday the 28^th.March.2013, the youth vowed to take up where they had stopped and to achieve what they had promised and much more.

According to Emile Nkurikiyumikiza who represented the youth on Urugerero program in Kibilizi sector says the work him and youth do is done willingly and voluntarily well knowing they are participating in building their country while solving their own people’s problems.

Some of activities that youth do for the society

 The youth on Urugerero program presented their achievements in this program including fighting soil erosion through planting trees and making trenches for water in the sector. Making vegetable gardens for the people, teaching people about nutrition, constructing accommodation for the homeless were among those achievements.

The youth on Urugerero program intend to start off where they halted from on the 21^st.April.2013 when the 3^rd phase of the program will start by sensitizing couples who are cohabiting to legally get married.

The executive secretary of Kibilizi sector Theophile Kayigambire asked the youth on Urugerero program to be exemplary to the rest of the people in government programs especially the upcoming genocide commemoration period.

“We are soon going to be commemorating the 1994 genocide against Tutsis and we need you to be exemplary and catalysts to development in your villages and cells by participating in the presentations and dialogues that will be given” says Kayigambire.

The 3^rd phase of the Urugerero program which is yet to start will end on 28^th.June.2013 as Florence Kubwimana the coordinator of the National Itorero in Nyanza district as well as Aline Niwemukobwa who works for the Itorero explained.
