The administration of Rukara sector in Kayonza district in cooperation with the World Vision Organisation has started a program of sensitizing parents to stop forcing their children do hard work which is inappropriate to their age
This sensitization started on the 31st.July.2012 and it will last for only a week as the administration council of this sector explained.
The main objective of this sensitization is to make parents know the effects of hard work to their children as it delays the functioning of their brains which makes them dull in schools.
In Kayonza district, many parents use their children for hard labour such as working in mining especially in Rwinkwavu sites and making their children miss schools to do petty trading which results into some of them dropping out of it completely.
Appolon Mwumvaneza the coordinator of World vision Rukara branch said that though there are expected punishments for such parents, they are not enough and that is why they opted for sensitization for them to know the dangers they are exposing their children to instead of doing it afraid of the law.
Parents will be given lessons on the dangers of hard labour on the children and how they can protect their children any kind of abuse and violence.

Congolese Refugees at Kigeme camp received non-food items in donation, from world vision which include bars of soap, hygienic pads and clothes.
Around 4,000 refugees gathered on site at Kigeme Refugee camp in Nyamagabe district to receive the hygiene and sanitation supplies.
“World Vision could have waited to gather more items and food for the camp, but felt the need to intervene sooner because health is a crucial and sensitive issue in camp life” Jimmy Gahima, World Division employee says.
However the area mayor Philbert Mugisha asked the refugees to properly use the supplies given for their health, and not to try to sell them.
“While the non-food items from World Vision are appreciated, many children in the camp still don’t have the right food for a proper diet and we need more help for refugees” Emmanuel Niyibaho, Kigeme camp manager says.
Currently Kigeme camp boosts more than 11,000 refugees in Kigeme camp and on Saturday, the camp stopped receiving more people because it had hit its capacity.
The camp manager disclosed that between four and five hundred refugees were arriving in the camp daily.
However, he said government is now trying to find more land in order to expand Kigeme camp, so it can resume receiving refugees from Nkamira transit camp on the Rwanda-Congo border.
The refugee’s influx started increasing in last 2months when the M23 rebels and government forces tightened fights in Eastern DR Congo forcing locals to free their homes to Rwanda.

World Vision has embarked on implementing its “kwigisha abaturage iziko” program, in order to fight malnutrition.
World vision in Rukara sector Kayonza district is going to put into place its program “Kwigisha abaturage iziko” whereby families with malnourished children will be gathering to learn preparing well balanced meals after every 12 days.

Appolon Mwumvaneza World vision representative in Rukara sector justifies “Residents have food but consider it to be for the poor. Once they are taught how to prepare balanced diet from this food, they will be able to fight malnutrition than they had never imagined.”
While there are some children in the different parts of the country, Dr. Agnes Binagwaho Minister of health responds that it does not mean there is famine in Rwanda but only some residents who do not know how to prepare balanced foods from the food they have.
While residents in various parts of the country think that the poor cannot have balanced diets, nutritionists confirm that a good diet is not prepared from expensive foods only.
Rukara sector residents hope that after attending “Kwigisha abaturage iziko”, they will be able to prepare balanced foods for children and teach their neighbors.
