A group of 58 genocide widows in Rutunga sector, Gasabo District on Tuesday received33 high breed goats courtesy of the Rwanda National Police Hospital.

The widows were also given several agricultural equipments such as watering cans and pesticide containers which they will use to increase agricultural productivity.

All donated items were valued at Rwf 1,130,000 from the contributions from Kacyiru Police Hospital staff members.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Daniel Nyamwasa, the Commandant of Kacyiru Police Hospital said that the donation is part of several other welfare activities Police engages in as an effort to promote improved living conditions of vulnerable Rwandans.

He urged the widows to take good care of donated goats. “These goats are going to reproduce and have an impact in your lives if you take good care of them.

Kacyiru Police Hospital also promised to address psychological problems that were inflicted to some of the survivors of the 1994 Tutsi Genocide.

James Nzirimu, the official in charge of advocacy at the National Commission against Genocide (CNLG) lauded theHospital’s contribution towards the welfare of the widows.

Nzirimu urged them to play their role by breeding the goats in a good way so they can have high production which he said would help to solve a number of basic needs.

Expressing her happiness, Sarafina Uwimana commended Police Hospital for supporting them.

Rugera sector is one of the 12 sectors that make Nyabihu district in the western province and residents of this sector were given cows by HPI (Heifers Program International) and those cows reproduced and these 32 cows were given to the poor on the 3^rd.Aug.2012.

The 32 cows were given to selected women in vulnerable families in this sector so as to get them out of poverty and to improve the social welfare of their families and to boost their farming through getting manure daily.

Elise Uwonkunda’s family that resides in Kirehe village was given a cow to rear and with much excited with her family members, they are sure that this cow will improve their social welfare and give them manure to boost their farming and give them means to fight poverty.

People who were given cows said it is very important to take their gratitude to the person who initiated Girinka program and HPI project for giving them a chance to own cows and saving their families from malnutrition and poverty. They promised to take good care of these cows and to give to those without once they reproduce.

Angela Mukaminani the vice mayor for finance and economic development in Nyabihu district thanked HPI for giving cows to people which is an objective of Rwanda government to support residents in fighting against poverty. He asked them to protect those cows and to think of their neighbors when they reproduce so as to break the cycle of poverty with the cycle of togetherness.

The administrative of Gatsibo District council has continued togive cows to the 1994 genocide against Tutsi survivors in Girinka program on behalf of FARG so as to ensure their social welfare.

On the 8^th.June.2012, about 12 cows were given to people in Kiramuruzi, Murambi, Muhura and Gasange sectors and were meant to replace cows that were rejected by district administration  because they never fulfilled the required criteria like having 50percent of the type of cows with enough milk production like Friesian cows, being pregnant and having more than 250 Kgs as the veterinarian of Gatsibo district Dr. Erneste Nsigaye explained.

Gatsibo district prepared to give out 25 cows in 2012 and in 2011, 40 cows were given out to the poor and genocide survivors and they were asked to take good care of those cows by feeding them well, drugging them on time and finding them good and clean kraals and to give to their neighbours when they multiply.

Those to get cows are chosen in their villages depending on the most poor among themselves, this will improve their social welfare with time as cows will increase and rotate among people to the extent that everyone will own a cow. Eating habits will be good, good production in farming through use of manure, and a change in economic statuses.

People who are not yet given cows were asked to remain patient as the program is still in process and only pregnant cows are being given so they will give birth soon and be rotated around.

Residents of Nyakarambi village in Kirehe district have celebrated this year’s Heroes’ Day by extending a helping hand to the disabled people in their community.

The community managed to collect Rwf62, 950 as financial support to the development of the association for the disabled in Nyakarambi zone, during a fundraising ceremony.

Mukangwije Aurerie and Kantarama Immaculée told us that forming an association for the disabled greatly helped them stop from begging alongside roads which was their daily business before forming the association, “we now have  a source of income from the crafts we are involved  in  like the basketry , making mats, bags, and trays that help us be self reliant.”

However this association that is made of 20 members most of whom are disabled and few who are not, have been promised by the executive secretary of Kirehe district, Zikama Eric also the guest of honour to support them until it become a cooperative “you are a very courageous group that really need a back up, do not fear therefore to seek for an advice or any other help as you will not be left unattended” he noted.

Un programme de distribution des vaches aux séropositifs a débuté dans le secteur de Murunda, district de Rutsiro. Ce programme a été mis en place pour les aider dans l’amélioration de leurs vies.

Le député Rwaka Pierre Claver a rappelé que l’ennemi numéro un des séropositifs est de perdre espoir ou confiance de soi. Cette perte de confiance de soi leur fait revenir en arrière avec des pensées de suicide. Mais si la personne atteinte  parvient à prendre conscience de la vie qui doit continuer, elle peut vivre normalement et sans encombre.

L’honorable Rwaka a demandé à ces séropositifs d’avoir de l’espoir dans la vie. Ce programme va se poursuivre dans les secteurs de Mukura, Musasa et Manihira dans ce district de Rutsiro. Ce programme a été financé par le Global Fund via l’organisation des handicapés AGHR, le ministère de la santé et le district de Rutsiro.

Le délégué de AGHR, Nkundiye Zacharie, déclare que ce don pour les séropositifs permettra à ceux-ci de bénéficier du développement durable. Ces 48 vaches sont reparties en 3 groupes comprenant 20 membres chacun. Chaque groupe recroit 4 vaches par tombola. Donc chaque secteur reçoit 12 vaches ayant une valeur de 325 000frs chacune.

Une des bénéficiaires, Nyirandimubandi Dorothée, a remercié le président de la république pour son action en faveur des pauvres en particulier des séropositifs. Au nom du maire de Rutsiro, Mr Niyonzima Tharcisse, a gratifié les bailleurs de fond pour leur action car dorénavant dans ce district 900 vaches ont été recensées. Il a exhorté que ces vaches doivent être bien tenues car c’est une richesse collective.
