National women’s council (NWC) at province level donated Rwf100, 000 to every District in western province to buy livestock for the poor women, an event that took place during International Women’s day March 8th 2013
In Rutsiro district, the money was used to buy five goats that were donated to vulnerable women Boneza sector in Rutsiro district to help them fight malnutrition related diseases.
Epifaniya Uwizeyimana, a beneficiary married mother of five from Rutsiro cell in Boneza sector says the goat will give her manure for her vegetable garden.
“I have been so poor in my home. Now that by chance I have this goat, I will use the waste to grow vegetables so that my children eat and stay healthy,” she explains.
Handing goats to the beneficiaries, Madame Marine Nyambo; NWC’s in charge of social affairs in western province asserted that goats were donated because it’s was only option depending on the amount of money donated.
She said: “We cannot say a goat is enough for a woman’s development. When one is to help you, he or she starts with the little they can afford. If better options are available, we shall continue to help uplift women from poverty.”
Donating to the poor was initiated by the administrative council of NWC in Western Province to improve the standards of living of poor women in every district.
