Never Again, a Rwandan association conducted Global Umuganda exercise to solicit youths’ support for genocide survivors. The activity is part of the 20th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
The Global Umuganda targeted youths in 15 African countries as well as youth in Canada, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States, under the theme,“supporting the vulnerable while preparing for the 20th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis.”
More than 50 youth performed different charity activities towards the genocide survivors on March 29, 3014 in Rusororo Sector, Gatsibo district. Such included renovating houses, cleaning, as well as improving home facilities like latrines.
The youths intend to play an active role in re-building Rwanda, 20 years after the genocide through kind activities, sensitization and creating awareness to the outside world about the 1994 tragedy.
“Youth participated in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, it’s our role to re-build our nation,” said Aphrodis Habimana, member of the Never Again association.
Under the same association, youths in Rubavu district universities united with their DRC University colleagues in Umuganda activities around the Rwanda-DRC Boarders.
Global Umuganda was the idea of Never Again Rwanda with the intention of bringing the youth all over the world to join in the projects for development.
Through these projects, the youth got a chance to discuss about the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis and ensure it never happens again anywhere in the world.
