It’s Perfectly Natural to Feel the Way You Do After a Breakup

Nothing sucks like a break up. Why? Well because you get to discover sides of you you had no idea existed. And what is probably most frightening is how vulnerable you feel without the person you had gotten used to being part of your life. It doesn’t help too that when people decide they no longer want to be with you, they really do break your heart in pieces and as if that wasn’t enough, they throw it on the floor and stamp on it till there is nothing more to break into a thousand parts.

I suppose how you feel after a break up depends on how much you loved this person, and whether or not you saw it coming and perhaps even how faithful to them you were. So is it normal for you to feel hurt so much that you wonder if the pain will ever end? Why should you go through this much pain anyway? Aren’t people allowed to decide they don’t love you anymore? Mmmm that’s harsh isn’t it? But that’s exactly what happens – someone from nowhere all of a sudden tells you that they don’t feel the spark anymore or that they met someone else.

How could you not be hurt by that? And no matter how civil someone is about breaking it off with you, there can never really be a nice way of telling you that its over can there? And things to do with the heart can’t be rationally explained you know. Meaning it’s perfectly natural to feel hurt, to be angry, to be numb or to not feel a thing at all.

So don’t be embarrassed with yourself when you exhibit characteristics you had no idea you were capable of exhibiting. And you should know too that a break up results in grief and there are so many stages of it that you must go through till you can safely conclude that you are over that horrible human being you made the mistake of falling for in the first place. Only that it wasn’t a mistake hey, and they are only horrible now, but the relationship was amazing whilst it lasted. And knowing this is what causes the anger. Knowing what was, what could have been and what can no longer be is both maddening and saddening – hence you will find yourself alternating between fury and complete despair.

And then it also happens that you feel nothing. It could be that you are numb or simply that you do not feel a thing at all. Is it because you too didn’t feel the spark anymore? Is it that you are too busy to care? Or that a better person is giving you the attention you deserved in the first place? Does this mean then that your previous relationship is already being referred to in past tense?

Matters of the heart really can be nasty, but point is, don’t worry, they do say if you miss the bus a better one will come pick you up hey And now that the year is about to end – this is the perfect time to get over such like things and begin 2015 a whole new person. And what better time to make yourself over than after a break up and when the New Year begins? #HappyHolidays regardless hey.
